  • Good Friday morning! Good Friday morning!
Here it comes. A new day. Sometimes we can antici Here it comes.
A new day. Sometimes we can anticipate good and other times we’re fearful of what we’re walking into. Perhaps we feel stressed.

According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) stress causes health problems including weak immune system, high blood pressure, ulcers and acid reflux, increase in blood sugar levels, migraines, respiratory problems, and so much more.

“Fretting” is defined as “an agitation of mind.” Bible dictionaries convey that fret means “consume.” Fretting is being consumed with worry and often leads to stress.

God knows our human nature is to worry. He wants to keep us from these worry-related health issues. He tells us in First Peter 5:7, “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you” (NIV).

He cares about every part of us, including our physical and emotional health. As we feed on His Word, He breathes life into our starved emotional and physical state.

Take pen to paper and make a list of anything that is causing you to worry or fret or stressing you. Then read your list to God and say, “God, you told me to give my worries to you. Here they are. Please help me and give me peace.”

Choose to be still—not agitated—in your mind. Then take it one day at a time, repeating the prayer as necessary. And don’t forget to tell God “thank you” for His care.

I heard it for myself. I was standing in the groc I heard it for myself.

I was standing in the grocery store check out line last night behind a friend (who didn’t know I was there for a moment) and heard her say to the clerk, “You have a beautiful smile!”

The young college-aged gal smiled even bigger! For some of us, a compliment comes naturally. But for others, due to their shyness, this would have been difficult.

Today, I have a couple ideas—that might push us out of our comfort level. First, let’s text someone a sweet message, maybe our child, spouse, or friend. Second, be intentional about noticing the people we encounter at the bank, school, or doctor’s office.

Once, I posed this challenge and a friend texted her husband who was at work that she loved him. He responded within seconds and said that the text “made his whole day!”

Who can you uplift today?

By the way, that friend I was standing behind? It was Jamie Padgett. She’s my “Psalm Sister, Soul Sista, Shine Camp & Conferences board member, and Spice Girl Sister.” Yep … there’s a whole story behind that one.
