Mukti Mission: Bringing Hope, Healing, and Life to the women and children of India. Give to Mukti

"What an honor and privilege to serve as the United States Spokesperson for Mukti Mission." -Debbie Presnell

Vision

The Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission in India seeks to rescue, empower, educate and train poor destitute women and children in India to be salt and light for Christ in Indian society and around the world.

Purpose

The purpose of Mukti Mission US is to restore poor, exploited, disenfranchised women and children of India by shaping and transforming lives one at a time and provide avenues for our partners to bring hope, healing, and life to Indian women and children.

History

Mukti Mission was founded by Pandita Ramabai in 1889 to address the needs of poor women and children. Over 133 years 100,000+ have benefitted from a safe haven, spiritual care, and educational and career opportunities. Today the Mission serves and cares for over 3,900 people daily.

Mukti Mission seeks to release the grip of hopelessness that poverty, rejection, and abandonment place on Indian women and children and to bring them to a place of empowerment where hope changes their life outlook. Through the excellent educational options available to each child and the various programs and classes offered to women, Mukti provides skills to escape poverty.

  • Debbie's Mukti Mission 2020

  • "I went to Mukti Mission for the first time in January 2020. My time at Mukti was amazing and life-changing. They are doing fantastic work there! I saw first hand how Mukti is taking care of women and children. They are providing hope, healing, and life! Mukti provided me with experiences of growth and change. I went to Mukti with the intention of blessing the staff, women, and children there. However, they blessed me. Coming back home, I stepped off the plane onto American soil a changed person. I came back from Mukti with a true sense of gratitude. There’s not a question if I’ll go back to Mukti. The question is when." -Meg Russ
  • "One of Debbie Presnell's favorite ministries is Ramabai Mukti Mission in kedgoan India. My privilege in January 2020 was to travel with her and Meg Russ along with our "chaperone" Jonathan Bollback for a visit. On arrival at 6 AM on a Sunday, after my travel of 42 hours, we were greeted by loudly chirping birds and beautiful smiling faces. We were each given our own brightly painted and decorated rooms where awaited fresh fruit and two handmaid specially for us, Punjab outfits. The warm welcome never ceased throughout our 10 day stay. The staff and the children and the older lady residents made sure we wanted for nothing. While Debbie taught and Meg counseled and took photos, I as a nurse visited the hospital as often as possible. After speaking in an assembly to 250 plus girls, I was swamped by laughing girls who wanted to touch my face and hair and tug at my hands. I met for the 1st time the two teenage girls that my husband and I had been sponsoring for 3 years.  I simply cried for joy at being able to hold them in my arms and  hug them.  They visited me throughout the week outside my room, invited me to their home for a visit, and let me get to know them despite  the language barrier. My even greater joy was meeting Ashu who we had sponsored since she was a young girl, the same age as our 4 children at home. She is now in her late 20's, holds 2 degrees, is married to one of the staff at Mukti, and teaches in Mukti's high school. She reaches hundreds of students every year including children of other faiths from the community. I am awestruck when I realize how God has used our small monthly investment to share His love to so many. We cannot begin to fathom the ripple effect of the seemingly insignificant gifts we give to God. Meg, Debbie and I and I became like sisters during this trip sharing laughter, concerns, prayers, and even clothes! This was truly a lifetime experience for me!" -Mari Lu Grooms
