Whatever We’re Doing, Let’s Be Kind While Doing It

Mid June …

College and high school graduations are over. School is ending and summer begins. Day trips are fun as are week-long vacations. Many are doing house maintenance, searching for jobs, and caring for others.

Me? I’m making it a goal to begin writing blogs again—here’s the first! And a newsletter—at least quarterly, hopefully more. That is after Shine Camp—where I have the extreme honor and privilege to hang out with teen girls all week solving world problems.

Not really. But maybe my team and I can support these teens while they seek the truth—the truth of God’s unconditional love.

But whatever it is we’re doing, let’s all be kind.

My daughter, her husband, and their two children were at a restaurant waiting for the hostess to seat them. She overheard the woman in front of her respond to the Hostess, “Oh just one … it’s my birthday.”
Without hesitation my daughter chimed in.

“No one should spend their birthday alone. Join us for dinner.”
The woman did. They ate, talked, and celebrated for the next three hours.
After my daughter and son-in-law paid for her dinner, the woman, who was traveling to another state, prepared to leave. But she told my daughter she would never forget this birthday or her kindness.

Y’all … it’s not that hard to positively change somebody’s day and make it better.

Lately I’ve seen so much kindness. A friend drove to my house last week and left me chocolate candy and a jar of honey. She thought she would leave it on my porch and drive away, but I caught her!

That was fun.

And the guy at the drive through window said nice happy words through the speaker: “I’d like to help you have a good day.”

Sweet.

Being kind is easy and inspiring … that is, when we feel like it. What if we all asked God to help us want to be kind, and provide us with an opportunity, and find joy in it?

If you haven’t read this for yourself in the Bible, you’ve probably heard it at some time in your life: “Whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them.” (Matthew 7:12)

That should motivate us.

Or how about: “Be kind to one another.” (Ephesians 4:32)

And remember, kindness is fruit of the Spirit, a characteristic of who we are as God’s children (Galatians 5:22–23).
So, let’s be kind.
