Simple. Subtle. Powerful truth.

While I was teaching a fifth-grade class, God used Austin to remind me that God would always help me.

I was waiting for an important text — one that concerned an issue I’d been praying about for a year. My phone was visible, and I glanced at it when it vibrated. When I read the simple phrase of good news, tears welled up in my eyes.

Thinking the incident had gone unnoticed I proceeded with my work. Austin, a handsome boy with dark hair and tons of freckles, got up from his seat and walked to me. Our eyes locked and he said, “Jesus will always help you.”

Simple. Subtle. Powerful truth.

What do you need God to help you with today? Are you facing a huge task? Are difficulties all around you?

We weren’t meant to be self-sufficient. We were made to need God’s help in all things, big and small. No other person or god can do what Almighty God can do. Nehemiah was called by God to accomplish a huge task amid great difficulties. So, he got busy with prayer and fasting. He confessed his sin that he knew about and praised God. What happened? He was focused and steadfast. David knew he needed God’s help also. He prayed, “Give us help from trouble, for the help of man is useless.” Both Nehemiah and David called out to a powerful God for help.

Are we as confident? Today, let’s be as smart as a fifth grader and trust that Jesus will always help us, too.
